Bring the Middle Ages to Life—with the masterful facsimiles of Faksimile Verlag, where tradition and innovation go hand in hand.
Founded 43 years ago in Lucerne, Faksimile Verlag has been led by Charlotte Kramer since 2017. She proudly continues the storied work of the company and advances the legacy of the facsimile business. Under her leadership, two of the world's oldest facsimile companies, Faksimile Verlag and Müller & Schindler, have united.
The goal of the Verlag is to integrate the programs of both companies in the interest of science and research. It offers users and enthusiasts of medieval manuscript illustrations a diverse range of works. Through the Verlag's efforts, access to the cultural heritage of the Middle Ages is provided in a contemporary form.
Faksimile Verlag upholds the highest standards of reproduction quality, craftsmanship, and scholarly preparation. The two traditional houses, Faksimile Verlag and the 1965-founded Müller & Schindler Verlag, work closely to ensure these high standards. The Verlag's limited editions are a testament to this philosophy and quality.
A new outstanding release is the collection of Leonardo da Vinci's notebooks (Manuscripts A-M), a collaboration with the Institut de France. The first notebook series are already available and the remaining notebooks are published in the coming years.
Faksimile Verlag is now part of the Universal Art Group to create a stronger and more unified presence in the field of art and culture. The integration into this group allows for a more comprehensive and diverse presentation of cultural products and services.
On the new publishing group's website, interested parties can learn about the commentary team and the release of the notebooks. The Verlag also invites you to explore the wonderful pages of the notebooks using the Living Manuscripts App.

Dr. Dagmar Korbacher (Director) - Kupferstichkabinett (State Museums Berlin - Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation):
“The value of facsimiles that are crafted to the highest standards and come as close to the original as possible cannot be underestimated. They bring the magnificent treasures of illuminated manuscripts to a broader audience by not only conveying the artistic enjoyment and contextual meaning of a work but also providing the tactile experience of turning book pages, which is often very limited with the original. Especially in our digital age, this is an important experience, without which the comprehension of a masterpiece of book art would be difficult.”
Why is the Faksimile Verlag now part of the Universal Art Group?
By bringing together several specialized brands—such as Faksimile Verlag, Living Manuscripts, Medieval Art Stories, Müller und Schindler Verlag, Eikon Editores, Haltadefinizione, Buchhandlung Anton Pfeiler, and Kulturalis—the Universal Art Group leverages synergies and enhances resource efficiency. This consolidation makes it easier to reach a global audience.
As a member of this group, Faksimile Verlag benefits from expanded distribution channels and collaborative marketing initiatives. Additionally, being part of a larger network of art and culture specialists opens new opportunities to further develop and disseminate the publisher’s heritage and expertise.
