Discover the Art World Anew—with Haltadefinizione, where technology and culture merge at the highest level.

Using state-of-the-art technology, Haltadefinizione produces high-resolution images that allow for a new way of viewing, understanding, and sharing the greatest works of art. Haltadefinizione has built an extensive, exclusive archive of HD images and, in 2006, released the world’s first 8.6-gigapixel photograph of an artwork: the fresco by Gaudenzio Ferrari in Varallo, Italy.

The following year, this record was surpassed with a 16.1-gigapixel image of Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper, which remained the largest digital image worldwide for several years.

Haltadefinizione enjoys an outstanding professional reputation based on numerous collaborations with significant museums and institutions, including the Cenacolo in Milan, the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua, and the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.

In 2017, Franco Cosimo Panini Editore acquired Haltadefinizione. Panini had earned a reputation as a mediator and preserver of artistic and cultural heritage over three decades, both in Italy and internationally. This merger combined technical expertise in capturing and digitally preserving images with decades of experience in publishing, dissemination, and appreciation of our cultural heritage.

A new era for Haltadefinizione began in 2021. The company entered the international market and opened a branch in Germany in collaboration with Müller und Schindler Verlag and Faksimile Verlag. This marked a significant advancement, as Haltadefinizione's exclusive cutting-edge technology and technical services are now available to museums and cultural institutions across Europe.

Haltadefinizione is committed to revolutionizing the art world through high-resolution images and digitally preserving cultural heritage. Our mission is to present artworks with impressive detail and thereby foster a deeper understanding and greater appreciation.
