Notebook: Ulugh Beg

Notebook: Ulugh Beg

DO YOU WANT TO RECORD YOUR STARRY HOURS?

Then we have just the thing for you!

In 1424, Ulugh Beg, astronomer and Timurid ruler, built what was probably the best observatory of his time. This enabled him and his team to measure the obliquity of the earth’s axis extremely precisely and to calculate the length of the astronomical year to an accuracy of less than 60 seconds. Furthermore, under his direction, a catalogue with information on about 1000 stars was created.

Some of his extraordinary illustrations, constellations in human and animal form, adorn this beautiful notebook and invite you to dreamlike mental games.
