St George and the Dragon

The image of Saint George triumphing over the dragon stands as one of the most enduring symbols of Christian art, representing the victory of faith over evil. From the 11th century onwards, this dramatic motif became inseparably linked with the soldier-saint, elevating him to the role of the ideal knightly protector.

According to legend, George rescues the king’s daughter of Silene by thrusting his lance into the dragon’s jaws. This powerful scene embodies courage, divine providence and the triumph of Christianity – a timeless icon of medieval devotion that inspired crusaders and continues to fascinate today.
