This charming bag shows the constellations Cetus (whale) and Pegasus. On a blue background, both representations are shown in subtle shades of brown, white and gold. As golden ornaments, the stars make both celestial beings shine. Both constellations are borrowed from Ulugh Beg’s manuscript, in which the astronomer and Timurid prince illustrated the constellations and celestial bodies in the 14th century, which Al-Sufi had already described in his Book of Fixed Stars in the 10th century. Ulugh Beg created a true masterpiece with this compilation of text and image.
